Based on today's article in the Straits Times The Straits Times Interactive (http://www.straitstimes.com/Singapore/Story/STIStory_502160.html?sunwMethod=GET), there are 3 levels of sex addiction?

Levels of severity

LEVEL ONE

Masturbation
Watching pornography (with or without masturbation)
Phone sex and/or cybersex
Voyeurism - online or live

LEVEL TWO

Chronic infidelity
Sexual relationships with multiple partners
Anonymous sex or one-night stands
Paid sex
Public sex (in bathrooms, parks, and so on)
Frotteurism (rubbing one's genitalia against a person, usually a stranger)
Stalking

LEVEL THREE

Rape
Child molestation/Paedophilia
Viewing rape, snuff pornography
Sexual abuse of older or dependent persons
Incest

From the list above, I am at least a Level 1, if not 2 addict... the question is

Do I need treatment?

Do I want treatment?

An addiction is when someone craves an activity to the point that it works to the detriment of his well-being and those around him. Things like substance abuse and gambling addiction are quite clear-cut, but sex isn't.

How does one differentiate between sex addiction and high sex drive?

If one takes the term "addiction" in the strictest sense, a sex addict would be prepared to lose his/her job or abuse his/her genitals till raw and bleeding, just for sex. How many people are like that? And then what's the treatment? No more sex? Drugs and gambling isn't necessarily part of life, but sex is.

So if now one takes the term "addiction" in the loosest sense, sex addicts would include married couples who have sex everyday, every teenager discovering their bodies and everyone else who has sex regularly.

Am I a "sex addict"? You bet I am, I cannot live without sex, and I do it all the time, it's an important part of my life. But do I let sex affect my job, my relationships and my interests? No.

I feel that the Shit Times is simply taking advantage of what has happened to Jack Neo to trot out their usual simplistic general sweeping statement articles. Maybe their idea of sex is just to have babies. Only have sex to have babies, if not don't have sex, that's the sublimal message. That would certainly be in line with a certain world's foremost expert on Confucionism and all that jazz about having 3 or more if you can afford it.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your replies. Actually I was not too bothered about being a level 1 or 2 "addict" because I think that I just have a high sex drive. :D

Just thought that the article was a little ridulous as it implies that the majority of males are sex addicts and hence will require treatment.

So is Tiger Woods a Sex Addict? I don't think so.
- it did not affect his job, he is still the World's Best golfer
- his relationshipswere affected. Yes, but that's because he kena caught or his B***h decided to rat on him for $$
- I wonder what his anti-addiction therapy is like? Can only guess that its more like marriage counselling.

Sure hope he can still perform to his best without the good sex. We'll find out soon next month.
Otherwise, it will probably just mean that good sex can help us all work better. :)

Agree with your statement. I wonder how much research was done before the 3 levels of addiction was defined. I would think there would be much more levels before you can be truly said to have reached addiction.

Alamak level 1 only and you want to seek treatment. You know how many of us here already reached level 2 and still feel there is nothing wrong with ourselves.

I am a level 2 myself, according to the catergories and find nothing wrong with my life. So what if I indulge in paid sex, it is afterall, said to be the oldest profession in the world.

This sums up nicely what "addiction" is.

You can be addicted to anything......
PC Online games, gambling, shopping, Facebook, smoking, eating, drinking,......,etc. Thousand and one thing. Sex is just one of them.

What's the big deal?? For me, if I found out one day I have lost the sex drive and cannot mari kita.....then it will be a very BIG deal.

i think ah bros... those people that write about the studies ah never had exciting sex before that's why everything else got levels one. Only missionary position exists for them.
its better living out your fantasies now than suppressing them. kena pay to see psychologist later.

BUT rape is rape & involuntarily abuse is still abuse yeah? big NO-NO
