So cheer us on through the sun and rain

Verse 1
Here at the Bridge whether rain or fine
We can shine all the time
Home or away, come and see us play
You're welcome any day

Chorus
Blue is the colour, football is the game
We're all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
'cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name

Verse 2
Come to the Shed and we'll welcome you
Wear your blue and see us through
Sing loud and clear until the game is done
Sing Chelsea everyone.

ROMAN ABRAMOVICH - THE BOSS
Forbes Magazine lists Roman Abramovich as one of the world's 50 wealthiest figures, and he already has the TV station and hockey team required of any self-respecting Russian oligarch. Now, much to Chelsea Football Club's delight, this reclusive billionaire has decided to make his mark on England's beautiful game.

Chelski

Now the Roman Empire has come to Stamford Bridge, and his arrival has sparked the same contrasting reactions. MP and long-time Chelsea fan Tony Banks has questioned whether, with his big but Byzantine asset portfolio, Abramovich makes a "fit and proper" owner.

Club chairman Ken Bates(miss him*sobs*), however, has welcomed his new benefactor. As well as wiping out Chelsea's debts and polishing Bates' personal coffers to the tune of £17 million, the Russian has promised a further £30million each on new players and training facilities.

He's already blown that meagre budget, in one day spending £24 âmillion to safeguard the assets of Damien Duff and Wayne Bridge. This money is petty cash for Abramovich but, for those on the club terraces, it holds the promise of championship, FA Cup and even European success.

His bottomless pocket in the transfer market means other teams get to enjoy the fruits of his largesse, and any victories for Chelsea will turn him overnight into a local hero. For players and fans alike of the beautiful game, it seems Roman Abramovich has everything to pay for.

If I am not wrong there was another Italian playing for Chelsea. Can't remember his name but he scored one of the fastest goal in the FA Cup Final. I think he subtained an injury that forced him into early retirement. He was a midfielder.

Nope that not him. I remember that he was a good looking bloke. He is a midfielder. I think the FA Cup Final was in 1999. Chelsea beat Boro 2-0 with him scoring within a couple of minutes of the match.

What a week, what a weekend
Will 90 minutes be enough to discuss the week’s events and the weekend’s bogey fixture when we’ve got an old hand and a debutant live on Chelsea TV’s ‘Big Match Countdown’ at 6.30pm this evening, Friday?

Have we had closure on William Gallas? Can we now start getting excited about Ashley Cole and his left-back battle with Wayne Bridge? Why did Charlton re-invigour their bogey last season at Stamford Bridge and knock us out of the Carling Cup before becoming the only team to leave here with a League point?

This is the the first Chelsea badge showing one of the famous Chelsea Pensioners that gave rise to our early nickname. It was never worn on any shirts however but did appear on later matchday programmes.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e179/75taurus/untitled-1.jpg
When Ted Drake became Chelsea manager in 1952 he instigated a move away from the old ‘Pensioners’ tag and wanted a new image to go with the new nickname, the Blues. While the new design was being worked on this cipher of the club’s initials was used for a solitary season as a stop-gap.

taurus75
11-09-2006, 07:31 PM
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e179/75taurus/untitled1.jpg
Probably the most famous of the Chelsea badges, used for 33 years, this was inspired by the civic coat of arms of the Metropolitan Borough of Chelsea. The lion was derived from the Arms of Earl Cadogan who was president of the club and also held the title Viscount Chelsea. The staff is that of the Abbot of Westminster whose jurisdiction extended over Chelsea. The roses represent England and the footballs more obviously represent the game.

Chelsea did not start wearing badges on their shirts until 1960 making this the first one used in that way. For the first few seasons the full badge, complete with circle, was sewn onto the shirts. However due to the complexity of the design several simplified variations were stitched into the shirts during the 60s and 70s, even though the full design complete with circle remained the official club badge. The cup triumphs of the early 70s were marked with the addition of an FA Cup symbol and stars.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e179/75taurus/untitled3.jpg
In 1986 the club adopted its 4th badge to make the most of the growing merchandising opportunities around football. While the design of the lion and CFC letters was always constant several colour combinations were used over time and the crest was at various times used within circle or shield outlines.

This has been used for almost 19 years and many fans will have started supporting Chelsea knowing no other form. While it has served the club well fans inundated the club’s new board of directors with demands for a return to the old-style design to take Chelsea into a new era, especially ahead of Centenary year.

taurus75

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e179/75taurus/untitled4.jpg
Launched in November 2004 the new badge became effective from May 2005, in time for the club’s Centenary Season. Additionally a special Centenary version of the badge is being used during the centenary year. At the launch Peter Kenyon said: "We are incredibly proud of Chelsea’s heritage. The design of this new badge is based on the one from the 1950s and it was a conscious decision to do this."

"As we approach our Centenary Year, and the club embarks on a new and very exciting era, it is appropriate that we have a new identity that reflects our tradition and can represent us for the next 100 years."

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e179/75taurus/logo_cfc_centenary_trans.gifIntroduction: Chelsea — A History of the First 100 Years

Chelsea Football Club has been good at celebrating special anniversaries. The year 2005 saw us reach the major milestone of 100 years-old. What better way was there to mark the centenary than by becoming champions of England for the second time in our existence?

Our golden jubilee had been similarly honoured. The club won silverware in the 1960s, the 70s, the 90s and at the turn of the new millennium, but 1955 was the year we finished above all other teams in the League for the first time.

It was also Chelsea’s earliest major trophy. The first five decades had seen the club develop into an integral part of sporting life in England’s capital city with famous players and a large, often full stadium.

Chelsea were popular, but achievement fell a long way short of that now enjoyed by José Mourinho’s team; the team that began the second 100 years of Chelsea history as the best in the land and the biggest football story throughout the world.

Bremen arrive with Klose concerns

All eyes will be on Miroslav Klose when Werder Bremen train at Stamford Bridge this evening with reports out of Germany suggesting Tuesday’s opponents have worries over their three German internationals.
Star striker Klose is quoted on Werder Bremen’s official website as concerned about a thigh injury suffered at the weekend. He played in a penalty shoot-out cup defeat against a lower division side.
The World Cup’s Golden Boot holder says he remain optimistic of being available but had the game been scheduled for Monday morning, he would not have made it.
The striker will test his fitness at this evening’s training session.

Petr Cech
Player Info
Squad Number: 1
Date of Birth: 20 May 1982
Height: 6 5
Career
Signed: 01 Jul 2004
Previous clubs: Rennes

A new arrival three summers ago who cost more than all the past goalkeepers in Chelsea history combined, Petr has progressed from being the most promising young keeper in Europe to arguably the best in the world. Very tall with incredible reaction speed and not shy to leave his goal-line, he has to be good to keep Carlo Cudicini out the side.
Petr was bought to provide serious and healthy competition to Cudicini and began his Chelsea career as José Mourinho’s first choice.
A precocious talent, he built his reputation at Sparta Prague where at the age of 19 he broke the national record for the longest spell without conceding a goal. Equally hard to beat in the Champions League, over one thousand minutes in all competitions passed without a goal.
That earned Petr a move to Rennes in France where midway through his second season he agreed to join Chelsea for the next campaign on a five-year contract.
At Under 21 international level he was a major factor in the crowning of the Czech Republic as 2002 European Champions while at senior level, Euro 2004 brought five clean sheets, a semi-final and a place in UEFA’s all-star squad of the tournament.
The clean-sheet laden first season at Stamford Bridge was statistically the most accomplished by any Chelsea keeper. A run of 1024 minutes without conceding a goal between December and March set a new English top flight record.
By the end of that season he had his first championship medal plus records for the fewest goals conceded and most clean sheets in an English top flight season. It was recognised with the award of the Barclays Golden Gloves for '04/'05.
Though the 2005/6 Chelsea defence was never quite as watertight as the season before, Petr continued to excel and was a major reason for a consecutive Premiership title. It was all the more admirable for the fact that unbeknown to most people, he had playing for 14 months in pain from a shoulder injury.
With the other shoulder also damaged during last season, Petr went under the knife as soon as the Czech Republic’s low-key World Cup ended. He missed the opening games of Chelsea’s 2006/7 title defence but returned at Blackburn in August in full working order once more.
Frighteningly for the opposition, Petr has well over a decade ahead to further improve!

Carlo Cudicini
Player Info
Squad Number: 23
Date of Birth: 06 Sep 1973
Height: 6 1
Weight: 12st 6lb
Career
Signed: 20 Jul 1999
Previous clubs: Milan, Lazio, Castel di Sangro

Chelsea’s undisputed first choice keeper for two seasons, Carlo was many people’s pick of the Premiership during that time. Super-sharp reflexes, lightning off his line and great with his feet, he can also claim to be one of the best penalty-stoppers ever.
A bargain £160,000 buy by Gianluca Vialli, Carlo built his reputation in England having been knocked back by injury in his homeland. It all started at Milan for the young Italian, the club where his father Fabio had enjoyed a legendary career, a fans’ poll naming Cudicini Snr. the Rossoneri’s top keeper of the 20th Century.
The young Carlo made two Champions League appearances for Milan but none in Serie A before heading out on-loan for experience. But almost immediately a wrist injury robbed him of two years and injury problems kept coming, reducing a career at Lazio to just one game.
But contacts of Vialli remembered his talent so Chelsea, requiring a back-up to Ed de Goey, rescued him from the Italian lower divisions in 1999, initially on-loan for a year and then permanently.
When age began to tell for de Goey, Carlo’s time had come, despite a brief challenge from Mark Bosnich. He was voted Chelsea's Player of the Year for the ‘01/’02 season and was sorely missed during spells out with injury the following campaign.
It was little wonder then that Chelsea bolstered the goalkeeping stock with Petr Cech in the summer of 2004 leaving Carlo with stiff competition between the posts. Indeed he has become the second choice but is the favoured keeper for domestic cup competitions although sadly, suspension denied him a place in the 2005 Carling Cup Final winning team.
Cech's recovery from surgery saw Carlo play the first three games of the 2006/7 season, including to Community Shield before he returned to the bench.
Having signed a contract extension to 2009 to stay and fight for his place, only John Terry has been at Chelsea longer.

A goal in each-half from the two Michaels, the first by Essien, the second a Ballack penalty secured an unspectacular winning start to this season’s Champions League campaign.

It will be the handing over of the spot-kick duties after Lampard had missed three of his last four penalties for club and country that will be the main story to come from the game.

Against familiar opposition, Chelsea’s new number 13 cracked his shot high and to the right. There was never any doubt it would hit the net. It was his first Chelsea goal with 68 minutes on the clock.

The European experience of Claude Makelele was never likely to be wasted so that meant a more advanced role for Essien with Shaun Wright-Phillips left out altogether. Every Chelsea player selected to start had played in the World Cup.
It was no surprise when the Ghanaian was the man on hand to finish of a persistent Chelsea attack through the middle on 23 minutes. It looked as if a dead end had been reached on the edge of the area as Lampard was dispossessed and the Bremen defence closed in, but Frank hadn’t given up and robbed a falling Pasanen, poking the ball through for Essien to finish with ease.

It was his first European goal for Chelsea, helping a strong claim to called the Man of the Match.

Day off for all but two
Wednesday, Sep 13, 2006

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e179/75taurus/rob.jpg
Robben told Chelsea TV: “I hope to join the first team tomorrow.”

Just two of the first team squad had to report for training today, Wednesday. Joe Cole was working on his fitness this morning, while Arjen Robben joined in with a full session with the reserves, his first session since tearing a calf muscle before the Blackburn game last month.

In modern football there are not many days off. Sometimes a Sunday can be a day without training, but Chelsea played on Sundays in the Community Shield, at home to Manchester City and away to Blackburn.
International players then mostly had a day off before joining their national squads, but since then have had nothing. Last Sunday was an important training session between Charlton and Werder Bremen.

So a day off is treasured, and the Tuesday Champions League game followed by another Sunday fixture meant José Mourinho could give his men a free Wednesday.
But for Joe Cole, who has now played just five minutes against MLS and ten minutes against Werder Bremen this season, it was an important day at work. And for Arjen Robben it was a big step in his return to fitness.

I never watched football until last year, when I saw the Chelsea-West Ham game. When I saw Chelsea win 3-1 with 10 men, that's when I knew they were the team for me...

And I love their attitude! When all they needed to win last year's Premiership was to draw with MU, they rubbed a 3-0 in their face!

Robben back as big guns prepare to battle

As the Premiership gears up for its biggest weekend of the season so far, José Mourinho welcomes back Arjen Robben into his squad for the visit of Liverpool.

On what is being dubbed ‘Grand Slam Sunday’ by broadcasters showing the games live, Chelsea’s match is followed by Man United versus Arsenal as the teams the Chelsea manager expects to finish in the top four go head-to-head.

Chelsea look to send out early message (which i doubt so...have this bad feeling...)

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e179/75taurus/LampardLiverpoolCS.jpg

Despite Sunday’s clash with Liverpool being the 12th meeting between the clubs in only two years, the Chelsea players will be looking at just another set of opponents on the Stamford Bridge pitch.
Familiarity may breed all sorts of emotion but Frank Lampard insists nothing will take the focus away from the three points available at the end of the game.
“We are not going to get caught up in rivalries, it is just about trying to win another game. Points at this stage are just as important as points at the latter stage,” he said, speaking to Chelsea’s official radio partner Smooth FM 102.2.
“It is extraordinary how many times we have played but we can’t get away from playing them in the league, we have to play them twice.”
“It is early in the season but games against your rivals are important. We have both lost games recently and we’ll both be determined not to lose any more because even at this early stage, you do not want to fall too far away from the leaders.”
John Terry agrees about the benefit of early wins over title rivals.

“When we beat Man U early a couple of years ago it set the tone and getting these big ones out the way, especially if we win, other teams looking in take notice.”
Lampard continues: “There a lot of competition this year and Liverpool have lost a local derby against Everton which is a really tough game. People expect them and us to win every game but it is not that simple.

“We know each other well and when they come here, they do not want to concede us too much space. That is how it has panned out at the Bridge in recent years. I expect we will get another one of these games.”

All these seems to be the bad omens....(red highlighted)

CHELSEA GAME WON'T DECIDE TITLE

Rafael Benitez has dismissed claims that the Chelsea game on Sunday is a must win affair for Liverpool and has insisted there is a long way to go before the Premiership title race is decided.

"I'm surprised so many people are saying if we lose, the title will be impossible," claimed a bemused Benitez. "I know if that happens, people will say we have no chance, and if we win they'll say we are in a race. It's still too early for this.

"Last year we won one of the first six league games but finished the season with 82 points and came third. This time, I wouldn't be surprised if a team with 75 points finished first.

"The Premiership is much stronger this year and a lot of club have improved. All the top clubs may have more problems.

"Last season Chelsea won many games, but I don't think it will be so easy for anyone this time. More teams will beat each other, and already some of the top teams are having difficulties at the start of the season.

"I promise you I am not looking at the table now, after just three games. The time to analyse the table is in another two months, and then you will see how the team is progressing.

"You never know whether it's a good or bad time to play them until after the game. It's never easy playing two games in a week, but at least we've been able to train with the players, talk to them and analyse things. That's better than our preparations for last week.

"Maybe after the result in PSV, our confidence is better. It's a big test for us, but we can be sure the motivation of the players going into the game is really good.

"These are the games the players like to play. They want to show we are strong and improve the results against the top sides in the Premiership.

"Last season we had problems in the league games against them and we want to do much better.

"We've done a good job against them in the cup and now we want to do the same in the Premiership. The cup is always different. Both teams know there can be no draw, and it makes a difference to the tactical approach. It's a different type of game in the Premiership, with different problems."

meaning Liverpool will go into this clash with an calm and open-mind...which i think/feel this way Liverpool will be VERY dangerous!!!

meaning Liverpool will go into this clash with an calm and open-mind...which i think/feel this way Liverpool will be VERY dangerous!!!

Calm and open mind they may have had, but we had DROGBA!

And besides, Liverpool are a cup team. Not a bad thing, but let's face it -- they only turn on the juice nowadays when there's a cup at hand. Maybe 30 years ago it was different, but it's a new Liverpool.

ManU and the Arse are the only serious contenders for the Premiership. ManU took a beating today, and the Arse took a beating the past 4 games.

I seriously doubt that Liverpool has the consistency to handle the Premiership. They can be an incredible team for one match for sure -- just look at the 05 Champions League final or the 06 FA Cup final. But over the full 10 months? I don't think so.

Here, i would like to present my own Man Of The Match to this Khalid ‘The Cannibal’ Boulahrouz

He simply cut -off all lines from Gerrad's play and supplies, which i personally contained Liverpool in a very effective way.

Kudos to this hard-takling defender!! EPL's strikers : Watch out for this guy...he's gonna break your leg!

Here's a previous interview of him.

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e179/75taurus/Boulahrouz.jpg

Boulahrouz: Tough-tackling Premiership appeals to me

Any player who has earned the nickname ‘The Cannibal’ during his career is unlikely to feel intimidated by the hurly-burly of the famously physical Premiership. Chelsea’s newest defender Khalid Boulahrouz is looking forward to getting in amongst the thick of it.

He watched Chelsea’s weekend win against Man City knowing he was to put pen to paper on a three-year contract just a few minutes after the final whistle. He hopes English football will suit him well.

“I played in the German league and I had a little bit of problem with the referees,” he admitted to Chelsea TV after signing. “I hope it will be different in the Premier League because I saw the game and many times it was very aggressive. Tackling - I love it!”

Many English football fans will only know Boulahrouz for his part in the record-breaking card frenzy that was Holland versus Portugal in the World Cup. A more detailed introduction to the player is therefore overdue. The player himself provides it.
http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e179/75taurus/Boulahrouz2.jpg

"The last couple of years I have played central defender and that is the position that I love. It is the position where I can show all my qualities but right-sided defender is not a problem for me.

“I can read the game before the ball is played and my speed is quite good. Technically I think I am okay and tactics are also important for a defender.”

News of the transfer from Hamburg didn’t reach the public domain until Chelsea announced an agreement on a fee on Friday evening. Chief executive Peter Kenyon comments on the deal.

“This is one that happened under the radar and quickly. We had been looking at various options, this one came up and we decided to move quickly.

“He is not a direct replacement for anyone. We have moved players out this season and our squad will remain at the same sort of size.”

The purchase of a 24 year-old means that on balance, summer shopping has been from the younger end of the market.

“Our overall philosophy hasn’t changed,” insists Kenyon. “We took two unbelievable opportunities with Shevchenko and Ballack, and they will add great experience to what is becoming a fantastic squad. That will be more than balanced by Kahlid’s signing plus Kalou and Mikel.”

No, i am not a Chelsea fan...... but i am really and totally a Huge Admirer of the 'Special One' Jose Mourinho

He is down to earth, straight shoot, not afraid to speak his mind, tactically far more superior than 80% of the EPL managers and has balls of steel...

Last Sunday nite.... he even hugged the 4th official.... haha, what a character. Can't help but love the guy man... simply put he is so differrent and definitely shocking to the typical 'pompous prawn sandwich eating' English fan

Am certain that if he stays on.... he'll eclipse Sir Alex Ferguson's record (m ManU fan lor)

Bro, not rumours leh. It is reported here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/r/reading/6153958.stm)

Reading duo receive death threats

Police are investigating death threats made to the Reading players involved in incidents in which Chelsea keepers Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini were injured.
Ibrahima Sonko and Stephen Hunt have received a series of letters at the club's Arborfield training ground.

Thames Valley Police said: "The club is helping us with our inquiry and the matter is being investigated."

A Chelsea spokesman added: "There is nothing to suggest these threats came from genuine Chelsea fans."

According to the Reading Chronicle newspaper, one letter said: "We are going to kill you for what you did to our players."

Reading players treated the first letter as a joke and pinned it up on the door of the training ground dressing-room.

But when subsequent letters arrived, players were told to treat the threats seriously and the club called in the police to investigate.

Cech is not expected to play again this season after sustaining a fractured skull in a first-minute collision with Hunt in the game at the Madejski stadium.

Cudicini needed oxygen after being stretchered off in a last-minute collision with Sonko, and only recently returned to action.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho hit out at Hunt's challenge, but neither Hunt nor Sonko faced any sanction from the Football Association.

Winger Hunt, on international duty with the Republic of Ireland, said: "The club is dealing with all my letters and I don't want to say any more."

Sonko confirmed he had received a letter but made no further comment.

Chelsea's spokesman added: "Naturally, we condemn any threats of this nature and we will assist the police fully if - and we stress if - there is any evidence linking theses threats to any of our supporters."

i have rated geremi very highly during his real madrid days, just like makelele. geremi always makes such good impact whenever he plays for chelsea; tackling, crossing and shooting so well. fierce shots everytime.

but i have a funny feeling he may not play so well if he is to start every game. he may be that kind of player, excellent backup but not made to be star.

Chelsea's Ukrainian striker Andrei Shevchenko has given a strong hint he may leave the English champions, saying his style of play does not suit manager Jose Mourinho.

Just on Tuesday, Shevchenko scored his first European goal for Chelsea as his side clinched top spot in Champions League Group A with a 2-0 win against Levski Sofia at Stamford Bridge.

However it seems Shevchenko is out of favour. "I feel at home and it's felt like my team for a long time but unfortunately my game doesn't suit Mourinho," he told the British press. "Roman Abramovich (Chelsea chairman) is my friend but all he could do was insist on a loan deal instead of me being sold.

"But if it happens, I am ready to pack my bags," he added. "I'm a completely self-confident person. If I don't suit somebody then I'll go back to Italy and prove how good I can still be.

"I'm not finished as a player. On the other hand I have nothing to prove. Everybody knows what Andrei Shevchenko is capable of."

he is a gd striker but true is chelsea style doesnt suit him, always the support for drogba. dunno y JM like drogba so much

Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips insists that he is happy to remain with the Premiership champions despite limited playing time.
"I know I'm happy here, and everybody wants me here. What everybody talks about is their own problem, to be honest with you,” said the 25-year-old.

Despite warming his ass on the bench for long. SWP remains faithful to chelsea, thumbs up for him
but age will soon catch up n his talents will be wasted
I sincerely hope dey can find better clubs to flourish

Mourinho hails brave Drogba

Jose Mourinho saluted Didier Drogba for fighting through the pain barrier to help Chelsea get their title challenge back on track.

Chelsea boss Mourinho wanted to rest Drogba for Wednesday's match against Newcastle because the Ivory Coast striker was struggling with a thigh injury.

But Drogba insisted he was willing to play even though there was a risk of aggrevating the injury and being ruled out for the busy Christmas fixture list.

Mourinho agreed to put Drogba on the bench but was planning to leave him there if Chelsea were in control against Glenn Roeder's side.

However, with the champions struggling to break down Newcastle in a match they desperately needed to win to keep up with leaders Manchester United, Mourinho was forced to send on Drogba at half-time.

The former Marseille forward responded with a battling display that was capped when he scored in the 74th minute to clinch a valuable 1-0 win that narrowed the gap on United to five points.

Mourinho said: "A normal player with a normal attitude wouldn't play this game and I was trying to protect him.

"I told him that normally if a player is out for 15 days he misses two matches, but if he was out for 15 days at this time of year he misses four or five matches.

"The best decision was to save him. If the result was positive at half-time I wouldn't have played him but it had to be.

"We needed him at the time, not just tactically but mentally as well. His attitude in the game and the way he works for the team was very important.

"He is now at the absolute top of his game. I can't say he is the best in the world but now is his moment."

Chelsea were well below their best and it needed Drogba to liven up a strangely subdued display.

Michael Ballack was once again a shadow of the player who starred for Germany at the World Cup, but Mourinho is adamant that the midfielder and Andriy Shevchenko, who was dropped to the bench but came on to set up the winner, remain major players for his side.

Sections of the Stamford Bridge crowd were quick to express their displeasure when Ballack sent a shot over the bar in the second half, but Mourinho will not be influenced by fans or the media.

"The fans don't make the team, I make the team. I don't select players because of the fans or comments in the press. I select players from my analysis of the team," he said.

"I have analysis through scientific technology and, based on my vision and knowledge of the game, Ballack is still untouchable.

"I take players out based on my analysis. If I take Shevchenko out because of the press I would have done it in the second week. I felt the team needed different qualities.

"How did he take it? As a good professional. He was not happy but behaved properly and gave a good contribution to the team when he came on."

loppp
15-12-2006, 11:56 AM
Mourinho is confident United can still be caught even though he is in the unusual position of having to chase rather than lead from the front.

"It is a bit fake when you have matches in hand but now we both have 20 or so matches to play," he said.

"I am not happy because I want to be top but I am enjoying a new experience because I have never been second in December.

Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder took heart from the way his side, without 13 injured players, fought bravely.

Roeder faces being without French midfielder Charles N'Zogbia for several weeks after he suffered a knee ligament injury, but he said: "Jose could hardly expect with the team we had to see us come and be ambitious.

"He had to bring on Drogba and Shevchenko. I'm sure he would rather have left them on the bench and that is the magnitude of our performance.

"N'Zgobia has a knee ligament injury. We are already virtually into single figures for fit players but we kept going."

Robben confident of finding space in wingless Chelsea

Arjen Robben insists he has a role to play up front in Chelsea's new wing-less formation this season.

The Dutch wide man has been limited to just nine starts in the Premiership this season, with manager Jose Mourinho opting for a midfield diamond.

That has resulted in Andriy Shevchenko being preferred as a strike partner to top scorer Didier Drogba, leaving Robben sidelined and without a goal to his name in this campaign.

But with Shevchenko struggling to make an impact since his 30-million-pound move from AC Milan in the summer, Robben believes he has a part to play alongside Drogba.

The 22-year-old has featured in key games such as Chelsea's 2-2 Champions League draw against Barcelona in October, and hopes to do so again against Everton in the Premiership on Sunday.

And although he last month admitted to being unhappy with his bit-part role at Stamford Bridge, Robben claims he will try to prove his manager wrong on the pitch, rather than off it.

He said: "As a player, you always want to play, but we've been playing a lot of 4-4-2 this season. I just have to show my qualities in training and when I play, that's all you can do.

"I had an injury at the start of the season and I've come back from that. I've played a few times in the middle as well with Didier, against Barcelona and Tottenham. I can play in that system as well, it's not a problem.

"I'm not really a player who likes to talk. I like to show what I can do on the pitch rather than speak to the manager. I don't think asking the manager why I'm not playing is the right thing to do; you have to show how good you are to get in the team."

Chelsea currently sit five points behind leaders Manchester United in the Premiership table, with both teams facing tough away games on Sunday.

The Blues travel to Goodison Park, looking to make it four wins in five league visits there.

United, meanwhile, travel to relegation-threatened West Ham, so Robben is convinced this year's title race is far from over.

Chelsea won the championship by eight points last season and 12 the year before that, but the Dutchman is ready for what looks likely to be a fight to the finish this time around.

And with United still to visit Stamford Bridge later in the campaign - as well as other top teams Liverpool and Arsenal - Robben is hopeful his side can capitalise on any slip-up.

And he knows Chelsea must focus on their own game if they are to keep the pressure on the leaders.

He added: "It's different to the last two years because we were on top quite early and stayed there, but we're not any less confident. It's only five points, there's still a long way to go and they have to go to Arsenal, Liverpool and to us, along with many more difficult games.

"We just have to focus on winning all our games and wait for them to slip up. Everton away is always a tough place to go so we have to have our minds on that game."

MICAH RICHARDS is on his way to Chelsea in an £18million deal.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho has made Manchester City’s young England star his top target.

Chelsea’s defence — without crocked skipper John Terry — has leaked six goals in three league games as they have slipped four points behind Manchester United at the top.

Richards, 18, has not been pushing to quit but City need the money and will cash in on their right-back in the January transfer window.

The clubs have all but agreed the fee and Mourinho plans to throw him straight into his team in central defence.

City boss Stuart Pearce admitted after Richards’ sensational international bow in November he saw the player as a future centre-half and Mourinho clearly agrees.

A troubling back injury to England skipper Terry, 26, has made Mourinho’s need even more urgent.

Terry may require an operation which could put him out for three months.

Mourinho said: “To lose our goalkeeper Petr Cech and John Terry at the same time is a very difficult problem to solve.

“We sold William Gallas and Robert Huth in the summer and don’t have enough cover so at this moment we are having problems.”

1-one attacking postion but 3 on the pitch(lampard, ballack, obi mikel)
2-weak defence sure is the one reason
3-players cant clik causing lack of ideas/creativity/accurancy of passing/focus
4-vice captain not standing tall in commanding on the pitch
5-ballack way off form and prime, lost soul, breaking up d connection in midfield
6-players seems over haul and tired
7-lacking sum1 to bring up the tempo on the pitch(j.terry loh)

Do chelski fans agree my views?

1-one attacking postion but 3 on the pitch(lampard, ballack, obi mikel) Don't think so...after yesterday's lacklustre performance...seems over reliance on certain players...it be better to have Essien or Makelele in midfield...and don't even start with Obi or Diarra...they're over-rated2-weak defence sure is the one reason Yes...the loss of Gallas and Huth was bad...i don't care if they'd lingered on the bench in the past..they were effective. Fereira seems a shadow of his Porto days and Boulahrouz lacks confidence. Terry and Carvalho is my preferred partner in central...not matter people talk about it but Cech is actually Chelsea's biggest loss...Hilario and Cudicini is just not IT. And where the hell is Bridge?3-players cant clik causing lack of ideas/creativity/accurancy of passing/focus Not really - Chelsea have always survived on that..remember the consecutive 1-0 victories in the past? Boring but effective4-vice captain not standing tall in commanding on the pitch Lampard? yes...not of calibre, no experience as captain...Ballack would be a good choice5-ballack way off form and prime, lost soul, breaking up d connection in midfield No Essien or Makelele in midfield...people expect too much of Ballack, in the past, Bayern or Leverkusen relied SOLELY on his presence in the team...Ballack brings another dimension to the team and can score too, let alone create6-players seems over haul and tired the core team...the untouchables have been stretched...we need the others back...Cech, Carvalho, Terry, etc7-lacking sum1 to bring up the tempo on the pitch(j.terry loh) and some confidence, they (or WE) must believe we can still win the title...if not, all this talk counts for nothing. Come on Sheva, time to repay us GOOD!!

CHELSEA eased into the fifth round of the FA Cup with a comfortable victory over Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge.

First-half goals from Andriy Shevchenko, Didier Drogba and Mikel Jon Obi put the Barclays Premiership side in total command and ended Forest’s hopes of pulling off a famous win.

The Coca-Cola League One side created little to test the Premiership champions, who could have won by a bigger margin.

Mourinho had already given Chelsea’s fans a major boost prior to the kick-off when he re-emphasised his determination to remain as coach until his contract expires in 2010.

Mourinho said: "I don’t have to be confident. I have a contract that runs until 2010, and that’s a very important thing.
"I am manager today and until the end of the season and I believe I will be manager until 2010."

Much of Mourinho's alleged spat with the club’s Russian billionaire owner has surrounded the use of misfiring Ukrainian striker Shevchenko and the lack of cash to strengthen his squad during the transfer window.

But Shevchenko, who scored twice in the 4-0 demolition of Wycombe in the Carling Cup semi-final last week, gave Chelsea the perfect start when he put them in front in the ninth minute.

The Ukrainian’s shot from eight yards out took a deflection off Forest defender John Curtis and bounced into the net.

But much worse was to follow for the League One side 10 minutes later.

Drogba sent a curling free-kick into the top corner from 25 yards for his 22nd goal of the season.

Goalkeeper Petr Cech enjoyed one of his easiest afternoons, with Forest who failing to produce a shot in the first half.

The tie was put beyond doubt in first half injury time.

Forest failed to deal with Lampard’s corner and the ball fell to the feet of Mikel who poked it home.

The second half saw Forest's performance improve.
In the 58th minute they could have nicked on back when Junior Agogo fired across the face of the goal.

Forest were far more adventurous in their approach but Chelsea remained in control.

In the 65th minute Kalou tested Smith with a downward header from a cross by Shaun Wright-Phillips.

A minute later Wright-Phillips sent Kalou clear down the right and when the Ivorian laid the ball back to Shevchenko, the Chelsea striker missed the target from the edge of the penalty area.

In the 67th minute, Smith just managed to keep out a swerving drive from Lampard with his knee as Chelsea continued to press for a fourth.

Essien almost achieved it 15 minutes from the end of the game but his header was cleared off the line by Curtis.

"AC Milan general director Ariedo Braida has admitted the Italian club could be ready to make a cut-price summer move for Chelsea's Frank Lampard.
FIFA rules state that players who have served out three years of a contract signed when the player was under 28 can buy themselves out of their own deal with just 15 days notice at the end of the season.
The buy-out fee is based on wages not market value meaning Lampard could be available for around £8million.
Braida was interested in the news and raised the possibility of a summer bid for the England midfielder."

chelsea player of the yr 2003, gianfranco zola. source of soccernet:

<Former Chelsea forward Gianfranco Zola has emerged as an early candidate to take over as coach of A-League club Sydney FC after the departure of Terry Butcher on Thursday.

The former Italy international is currently assistant coach of the national under-21 team, but his contract with the Italian federation runs out in June and a move to Australia could be on the cards.

A spokesman for Zola said: 'This interest is genuine.

'He definitely believes a move to Australia is something he would like to do, and he feels he could help take the club forward.

'It's really up to the club to make the first move,' he added.

The 40-year-old and his family were hugely impressed with Sydney during their visit over the Christmas period, and it is believed the current crisis in Italian football has swayed him even more towards making a move.

And with his contract due to end shortly, he would be available for the club well before the start of the next A-League season.

On Thursday, a statement from the Sydney club confirmed the former England international's departure.

'Sydney FC today confirmed that the contractual arrangement with Terry Butcher as head coach of the club has come to an end,' the club said in a statement.

'The parties and their lawyers have had discussions. No further statements or comments will be issued or made at this stage.>

all chelskis, letz rally for our first cup.....cheerzzzzz:D

taken frm skysports:

Chelsea had positive news regarding John Terry after their skipper left hospital and returned to The Millennium Stadium following his injury in the Carling Cup final.

The Blues defender was rushed to hospital following a sickening head injury in the second half of Chelsea's 2-1 win, but any fears of a serious problem have now been allayed.
Terry was allowed to return to the scene of his side's victory after his absence meant Frank Lampard was called upon to lift the Carling Cup.
The England skipper sustained the injury when Abou Diaby attempted to clear from a corner and only succeeded in booting Terry full in the face.
During a lengthy delay in play -with the Blues skipper lying unconscious on the pitch - medical staff from both sides treated Terry as a number of players voiced obvious concern at his condition.
However, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has now signalled his relief at the news of his leader's return after admitting the incident evoked memories of Petr Cech's horror injury earlier in the season.

"Sometimes in football, dramatic things happen," said Mourinho.
"This season we have already had the situations with Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini and the negative thoughts come directly to your mind.
"The first point is 'Is he safe? Is the man fine?'. John's wife, his little babies are here, so the most important thing is that the man is safe.
"John risked himself and the Arsenal player was trying to protect his goal. I have no criticism about that.
"There was concern when the situation happened but after that the information was coming in that he was conscious again and everything is fine."

Match-winner Didier Drogba - who scored twice following Theo Walcott's opener for Arsenal - spoke after the final whistle of his distress at Terry's injury.
"Today is strange," said Drogba. "We won and we're happy because we've got the cup but we are also scared because we didn't know what to expect when we saw JT on the floor.
"I think more about JT than the cup. It is difficult because he was one metre away from me (when it happened).

"We saw his character and this is why he is our captain and why he is the best."

hope our captain is really alright to lead chelsea to the nxt 3 trophies

Congrats on winning the Carling Cup. A strong 2nd half from Chelsea see off the exciting Gunners 2nd string.

Arsenal Again!! It's been said they are sore losers and they proved many right last night. Toure made a meal of the shirt pulling. Fabregas got himself involved again and Adebayor was mental.

Another was the Terry incident. He swallowed his tongue and his face turned into his team colour after his head was mistaken as the ball by Diaby. Poor Diaby was in tears after seeing Terry's fell and his head bounced off the ground! Diaby must have wacked Terry so hard that he injured himself and had to be subbed.

Hope Terry doesnt suffer any reaction and will be free from any injuries to take to the field when Man Utd go to Stamford Bridge.

according to soccernet:

"The spectre of Chelsea hung over Arsenal's Champions League exit on Wednesday night with Brazilian defender Alex - a player the Blues part own - completing an 'horrendous' 11 days for Arsene Wenger."

"The 24-year-old was bought in a joint-agreement between PSV and Chelsea in 2004 with the contract stipulating he spend two seasons in Holland before moving to Stamford Bridge
His failure to play for Brazil has frustrated the former Santos defender's efforts to switch to the Barclays Premiership on work permit grounds but tonight he ensured Chelsea had a hand in Arsenal's Champions League misery.

'He's Chelsea's player and PSV rent him from Chelsea because he's still not allowed to play in England.

'We're proud he plays for us but know it won't be for much longer.

'He can play against Chelsea in the next round because he's at PSV until the end of the season.

'After that we'll talk to Chelsea about his situation. It was an agreement with Chelsea that he stays with us for the season.

'I think Chelsea will be happy Alex scored tonight."

Joe Cole is ready to hand Chelsea and England a boost by making a return to action next month.

The skilful midfielder has endured a season of injury torment, but is making good progress from a broken foot.

Cole is set to begin full training at the start of April and he could be in Chelsea colours before the end of next month.

Chelsea are still in a battle for honours in Europe and the Premiership and Cole's return will hand Jose Mourinho an option which has been sorely missed this term, while he is ready to aid England's Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.

"This week's qualifying matches have come just too early," he told the Sunday Mirror.

"I'm just getting back into training and with luck I'll be available for the next round (against Estonia in June).

"I just want to get fit and be in a position to help the lads on the pitch."

Chelsea have emerged as favourites to land Spanish starlet Guillem Savall.

The 18-year-old is considered one of the most promising youngsters in Spain and has emerged through the same youth teams as Barcelona's Bojan Krkic and Aaron Niguez (Valencia) - widely regarded as the best players of their generation.

Savall, though, is held in very high esteem also - but Espanyol have failed to tie him down to a professional deal and as such he is considered an amateur.

Because of this Savall is free to talk to other clubs and Chelsea are reported to have offered very favourable terms to the young stopper.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are also said to be keen - but Savall could very well continue the exodus of Spain's brightest young talent to The Premiership.

The path from Spain to England for La Liga's youngest talent is a well trodden path, with the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Gerard Pique and Fran Merida all moving in recent seasons.

Another to make the move is Sergio Tejera - who joined Chelsea last summer, coincidentally from Espanyol.

Espanyol are set to hold talks with Savall and his representatives next week, but local sources suggest the club are resigned to losing the teenager.

Should Chelsea secure Savall, then he is likely not to be the only arrival from Spain as earlier this week Real Mallorca confirmed The Blues had made a move for their young striker Emilio Nsue.

Headline: Abramovich casts doubts on Mourinho future

Jose Mourinho's future at Chelsea has been thrown into further doubt after it was revealed that Chelsea chairman Roman Abramovich held a meeting after the game at Watford on Saturday to discuss his position.

The Russian billionaire owner convened in what the Daily Mirror has described as an 'extraordinary public referendum' with chief executive Peter Kenyon, chairman Bruce Buck and his right-hand man Eugene Tenenbaum all present.

Reportedly in discussions for over 15 minutes, with Mourinho's future top of the agenda, the Chelsea supremo also avoided Chelsea's dressing room after the late win at Vicarage Road, in a bid to steer clear of the Portuguese boss.

Frank Rijkaard, Guus Hiddink, Roberto Mancini and Marco van Basten have all been mooted as possible replacements- but the management structure could be changed entirely with The Independent reporting that Chelsea 'are considering hiring two coaches - one of them English - to be overseen by a senior figure.

'The plan to appoint two coaches under a more general manager would be attractive to Chelsea for many reasons, not least that it would prevent the kind of stand-off that has developed between Mourinho and Abramovich,' the paper asserted.

The Independent also stresses that 'appointment of an Englishman to a senior role at the club' is a 'major priority'.

Essien heartbreak
Despite Chelsea now being noticeably on top, Valencia substitute Miguel Ángel Angulo might have won it with a powerful left-foot drive. Then Cañizares, who had acrobatically kept out Drogba's header shortly before the break, produced another wonderful diving stop from Ballack's late header as a thrilling match appeared destined for extra time. However, the Valencia custodian was powerless to prevent Essien's thunderous strike that gave Chelsea the lead for the first time in the tie with seconds remaining, making the visitors the first English side to win at Mestalla and taking them into the final four.

this is from the Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho,

"During the break we were out of the competition but in the second half we were very dominant, dominant, dominant and beat a great team in a tough stadium. On top of that, we were losing at half-time. We deserved to win over the 90 minutes but we were ready for extra time and I had my changes prepared. This season we've had problems with 50 per cent of our players and today we resisted, resisted, resisted. I think any Chelsea supporter has to be proud and even any English fan, as we have three English teams in the semi-finals. Revenge isn't a word for me - not in my life and even less in football. We're at a disadvantage against Liverpool [FC] in the semi-finals because we're still in three competitions"

Klinsmann the latest in Chelsea link

Former Germany coach Jurgen Klinsmann has been added to the list of managers tipped to replace Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.
Mourinho is determined to see out his contract which has three years left to run.

Mourinho and billionaire club owner Roman Abramovich shared a victory embrace in the Old Trafford directors' suite after Chelsea booked a place in the FA Cup final with a victory over Blackburn on Sunday, suggesting that any differences there might have been between the pair had been settled.

Nevertheless Klinsmann, who led Germany to the World Cup semi-finals last summer, has been linked with the Stamford Bridge job in the press and Franz Beckenbauer, who won the World Cup as a player and manager with West Germany, believes the former Tottenham striker would 'fit' at the west London club if he is prepared to give up his California home.

It is claimed he will be offered a £7million-a-year contract to take over at the club.

Beckenbauer told The Sun: 'Jurgen and Chelsea fits but it won't work if he tries to commute.

'Nevertheless if the chance arises for Jurgen he should grab it. At 42, he is a young man who can work at a top club.

'When Jurgen does a job he is engaging and energetic. He still enjoys great respect in England from his time at Tottenham.'

Mourinho 'hid in laundry basket' to beat ban

LONDON, April 24 (Reuters) - Two newspapers related on Tuesday how Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho once allegedly hid in a laundry basket used for transporting the club's kit to get round a UEFA ban covering a big game.

The Daily Mail said it happened two years ago when Mourinho had been barred from contact with his players during both legs of a quarter-final Champions League tie against Bayern Munich.

He was being punished after indiscretions in the previous round with Barcelona.

On the night of the home leg, observers were convinced that Chelsea fitness coach Rui Faria was using an earpiece hidden under a woolly hat to communicate with the manager, the Mail said.

Both the Mail and The Times said Mourinho arrived early at the ground, watched the game on a TV in a dressing room and delivered the pre-match and halftime talks.

Both papers alleged that about 10 minutes before the end of the game, which Chelsea won 4-2, the manager clambered into one of the laundry skips.

He was then wheeled away to Stamford Bridge leisure club where it was claimed he had spent the entire evening.

Both papers quoted a Chelsea statement saying: 'The situation is very clear. Both matches were controlled by UEFA and they were more than satisfied on both nights that their ruling was intact, hence the statements that were issued by UEFA at the time and subsequently.

'The only reason to publish this so close to a big match is to serve an agenda that is intended to undermine our team.'

Chelsea play the first leg of this season's Champions League semi-final against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The Daily Mail said UEFA would not be taking up the alleged episode with Mourinho. The Times suggested they were unlikely to act because of the time lapse.

Morose Mourinho almost ready to concede title

Jose Mourinho conceded Chelsea had `almost' lost the their grip on the Barclays Premiership title after failing to beat Bolton at Stamford Bridge.

United are now five points clear at the top after fighting back from two goals down to beat Everton 4-2 at Goodison Park and with just three games to play, Sir Alex Ferguson's side are favourites to land the crown.

A second-half equaliser from Kevin Davies pegged Chelsea back and despite all their late pressure, Mourinho's side had to settle for a share of spoils in a 2-2 draw.

Mourinho declared: 'I feel sad but I have a big game on Tuesday night and that's a good thing in this situation. We have no time to be sad.

'But it is almost lost, almost. In football, almost is always a big question mark. It is not over because mathematically there is a chance and when the chance is there, we have to believe and chase the opportunity you have.

'At this moment we have to win and we have to wait. It is much more difficult. Manchester United, in this moment, feel very, very close. They have to lose two games and we have to win all three.

'They don't feel pressure and feel quite confident. They can come to Stamford Bridge, lose and still be champions.

'They are very, very close to it. But we win things as a team and we lose as a team. We do it together in both the good and bad moments.'

Bolton failed to quell rising speculation that manager Sam Allardyce will leave the club in the summer by sending assistant Sammy Lee to face the media after the game.

Allardyce is understood to have told chairman Phil Gartside he intends to quit the Reebok Stadium this summer.

But Lee said: 'It's just speculation. But Sam has been ill and he didn't travel down with the team - he came down this morning. So that is one of the reasons for my appearance.

'At the moment, as far as we are concerned, it is only speculation. As soon as we know anything about that, we'll let everyone know.'

The speculation certainly did not seem to affect Bolton's players who recovered from Chelsea's first-half fightback to snatch the vital leveller.

Lee added: 'There's a misconception going around about Bolton. We don't feel we get the credit we deserve.

'But we are just trying to get as high up the table as we possibly can. We are desperate to get into the Uefa Cup and delighted to get another point today. We got into their faces a bit more in the second half.'

But while Mourinho had almost conceded the title to Manchester United, Lee insisted that everything was still to play for.

He added: 'Until it is mathematically impossible, I am sure Chelsea will keep on fighting.

'I have too much respect for both teams and there is still a lot of football to be played.'

Chelsea bros...

initially i was skeptical about Obi's transfer fees ans his qualities as a player...but he seems quite versatile, strong and good passer of the ball...can take that Essien/Makelele if they're not around - what you guys think?

from the Times

'John Terry, the Chelsea and England defender, made the remarkable disclosure last night that, during recent contract negotiations, he had asked for a clause that would give him the option to take over as Chelsea manager at the end of his playing career.

Talks over a new deal collapsed in March as the club refused to meet the captain’s demands, with his request for the managerial clause one of the main reasons for the breakdown.

Terry insists that he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and is confident of signing a new deal in the summer, but he will have to rethink his demands for a nine-year contract as the club’s highest-paid player. Chelsea’s latest offer was a five-year deal worth £120,000 a week and, while there may be some room for negotiation over wages, they will not offer a longer contract to a player already suffering from back trouble.

Terry’s commitment to Chelsea and love for the club is indisputable, but for a 26-year-old to discuss his managerial ambitions will be seen in some quarters as presumptuous.

“I don’t know about emulating José, but I’d certainly like to manage one day,” Terry said. “When I was speaking about my contract with Chelsea, I was talking about a nine-year contract and maybe with an option to manage at the end of it. It’s the way I want to go, I want to get my badges and make that decision at the end of it.”

In a remarkably candid interview, aired on the BBC’s Inside Sport programme last night, Terry revealed a great deal about his life on and off the pitch. The England captain spoke for the first time about unfounded allegations that he racially abused Ledley King, the Tottenham Hotpsur defender, during Chelsea’s Barclays Premiership defeat by their North London rivals in November, in which he was sent off for the first time in his club career.

Terry was fined £10,000 after being found guilty of improper conduct for questioning the integrity of Graham Poll, the referee, and while he remains angry at the charge, he is more concerned about the malicious whispering campaign that followed.

“I still feel a little bit angry,” he said. “It was my first sending-off of my career and I’m not that type of player. Sometimes it’s easier, sometimes you admit things you don’t feel inside. I used to play Sunday football with Ledley King and it’s disheartening.

“At the time of the incident, I got loads of text messages on my phone, after a lot of people thought I was racist to Ledley King and a few other Tottenham players. It certainly isn’t the case. I’d never be that way. People who know me as a person know I’m not like that.”

Mourinho insists better team were knocked out

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho claimed the Blues were the better team on the night as his side crashed out of the Champions League on penalties to Liverpool.

Liverpool won the match on the night 1-0 thanks to Dan Agger's first-half strike which levelled the tie at 1-1.

But with neither side able to break the deadlock after extra time, the Reds held their nerve to win 4-1 on penalties with Dirk Kuyt scoring the winning spot-kick.

'It is a moment when everybody has to be strong,' he told ITV.

'They (the Chelsea players) have a lot of reasons to be proud. They did a great run in the Champions League.

'We were the best team today, even against a team only playing for the Champions League.

'In extra-time we were the only team who tried to win, but football is like that and the penalty shoot-out is part of the game.'

Mourinho also denied that his comments in the build-up to the game had provided a spur for Liverpool.

He added: 'I respected Liverpool always in my words. I don't need to say more and today I think the best team was Chelsea.'

hi local chelsea boss...
mourinho seems to be losing his touch! why?!
mayb you could have done better

im very disappointed by the latest run of results... we seem to be faltering at the most crucial stage!
Hopefully we can get back to our winning ways in time to salvage the rest of our domestic treble chase.
