Ever took a bluebird cab at DC mall area to harbourbay and the taxi fare turn out to be about 35k only. The bluebird car interior is comfortable and rather new unlike some cab interior are very old and run down.
if you are not booking and get them from the street, just paid what the meter show

Yes, i only paid for the exact fare base on the metre as i hired the bluebird cab on the street without any booking.

During that time which is my first visit to Batam three years ago, I was actually desperately looking for taxi at DC mall going back to harbourbay to catch the 7.30pm ferry back to spore. However was quite frustrated and disappointed because such a big shopping centre don't even have a single taxi stand. Even in johor bahru, any small shopping complex will have at least a taxi stand and alighting area for shoppers.

I started searching for taxi from 6.00-6.45pm but to no avail. Then i remember ever come across the nagoya map that from dc mall there is a straight road all the way to harbourbay terminal which is called jalan duyung, it will pass by places like top 100, pacific hotel, novotel hotel before reaching harbourbay. But I know if I started to walk from 6.45 i may not reach harbourbay terminal in time as by 7.15pm i would have to check in to the terminal.

Fortunately luck was on my side as i just started to walk few minutes a bluebird cab came to my "rescue". The cab driver was well dicipline and greeted me politely and i really appreciate for his good service. However when i reached the terminal, i gave him the exact fare of 35k and he didn't ask for more and therefore i did not give him any tips as i always believe in not spoiling the market price for the sake of all cheongsters , hehe.

From this experience, i began to realise that whenever you want to travel to another country or city, should always study the map first to have at least a sense of direction, at least to know your geographical location in the city where you are staying (example in N,S,E,W,NE,NW,SE,SW) and to roughly know the way back to the airport/bus or ferry terminal.

If you know where your position is, machiam like gps, you won't get con by the cab driver making one big round before reaching the destination as you will know the estimated distance.

Then for my 2nd,3rd and 4th visit, I will normally walk from harbourbay to formosa hotel (my favourite) by many different routes. This coming october will be my 5th visit.

The first walking route that I always like to use is:

1) From harbourbay mall exit turn right walk along jalan duyung and before reaching pacific palace cross the road to the opposite side.

2) Then continue to walk south and before reaching novotel, turn left walk along jalan raja ali haji where you will pass by many shops like morning bakery and bank BCA.

3) When you reach hotel planet holiday outside you will have to cross the road where you see a mosque, walk along the pavement until you reach goodway hotel.

4) Now you are at jalan imam bonjol which is the main road of batam. From goodway hotel you have two route to formosa:

i) First is continue walking along the main road pass mandiri bank and nagoya plaza hotel until you see nagoya hill shopping mall, then cross the road and walk directly to formosa

ii) Second is from goodway hotel outside cross the road where you see hotel sari jaya and walk down all the way south directly via the small lane passing by many shophouse, dynasty joint and centrepoint before reaching formosa hotel .

There is another second walking route which i ever tried before during my second visit to batam from harbourbay to formosa hotel:

1) From harbourbay mall exit turn right walk along jalan duyung and before reaching pacific palace cross the road to the opposite side.

2) Then continue to walk south for quite a distance pass novotel hotel, until you see top 100 shopping centre then turn left.

3) Rite now you will be passing by the wet market and continue to walk straight until near hotel sari jaya and turn right to reach formosa hotel.

The third walking route is via hotel panorama regency which I would not recommend as it is rather complicated as you need to cut across many shophouse and buildings.

Now,you just post another interesting stuff,bro...i have been walking from Harbour Bay to Formosa relatively a few times over my trips to Batam, and till today i still didn't know the road name or even how i manage to get to my destination...lol.

I followed the maps i created,it's a jpeg format,so i can copy and save it on my mobile phone (no GPS or internet required) :

There is also a bro by the name,qwerty2009 in this thread who created a giant sized map of all the place i frequent most too. I shant post the pic here but just the link cos the picture size is really big and may affect bros who are here viewing this thread :

http://www.$$$$$$$$$$$$$.com/x/clean...9/10/tS1Xv.jpg

And then another bro here by the name Meat also got share practically all the Batam Entertainment Places of Interest for cheongsters which i bookmarked them HERE.... for easier future reference.

Also, thank you for sharing the information on Blue Bird Taxi too. The only problem i have which i am think now is,if i were to call them where should i ask them to pick me when i am in Harbour Bay.

Re: Batam Info Thread

For terminals, meter taxi will normally ask you to wait at the bus stop (halter) outside the terminals. if you have time, do try out their local bus at 4k rupiah per head regardless of distance.

It cover many parts of batam. (any bro have detailed route for the local bus)?

I only ever took from tiban to mega mall and from bcs to nagoya hill.

For family guys with children, can consider bringing your kids to costarina or Batuaji water park.

Re: Batam Info Thread

Hey guys, not sure if you guys find the following info useful or not. But at least you won't be going in blind.

1. If the girl wants to go back and claims to be on her period, let her. Just note that a majority of these girls have gotten a jab prior that would halt their menstrual cycles for about six months. Usually they will just endure one or two shots so that papi will not have a reason to give a larger discount for the next girl u take.

2. If u see a girl u like in the joint, try talking to her first. See how she responds to u. Take ur time to assess the situation. The papis would usually allow you to talk to the girl. If u like the chemistry, u shouldn't have to worry about her service. But a little disclaimer here, not 100% guaranteed. Bahasa comes in really handy here. Try asking the papi which girl can communicate with better english. Some of them speaks cantonese/hokkien., but those are rare. So don't get ur hopes up. If u looking for indo chinese, my suggestion is dat u stay in sg. Indo chinese are more pricey and does not gurantee service. And some indo chinese don't even speak any dialect of chinese.

3. Remember that these girls are human too. When u take them out of their joints, they are ur gf/wives for the duration. That means treating them appropriately, such as feeding them and allowing them some breathing room. Some bros treat them purely as sex objects which is the wrong mentality.

4. For bros with a preference with SYT, sorry to tell u this but there is no sure fire way to get a service orientated one. They are usually more responsive to younger/better looking bros.

5. If you are looking for bargain price sessions, u might want to consider heading to balai as too many singaporeans hv spoiled the market. A decent looking one would cost the most 1 mil. Now some have gone up as high as 2 mil. Remember, high price does not guarantee quality.

6. Try to have a regular driver or build a rapport with the taxi driver. Give him the impression that u are a potential repeat customer. Tell him ur preference and if u are aware of a blacklisted joint, make it clear that u do not want to go there.
It is a small investment to make ur trip more comfortable. If u encounter problems during ur trip, he will be the best person to fall back on. Usually drivers will charge u sgd50 for the day. Local courtesy would require u take care of him by having him tag along for your meals. If any bros here need a reliable driver, pm me and i will pass u his number. He is quite reliable and speaks some english.

Re: Batam Info Thread

Cont...

7. When changing currency, i try not to use the money changer at the jetty. Instead, i will ask the driver to bring me to a money changer that offers better rates. Usually there will a few changers around nagoya area that offer better rates. Go shop to shop first and ask what their rates are. Some may even ask u what the other shop is offering and counter their competition's offer. You can also ask them to give u denominations of 100k notes to save room in ur wallet. Count ur money at the back area of the shop and split the money into different locations on ut person, eg. Ur pocket, wallet, pouch, etc. This is in case someone is watching for easy targets. Usually singaporeans are more or less protected from getting hit at money changers. But it pays yo be extra vigilant.

8. When at customs, keep ur return ticket with u. They have a tendency to disappear if u place them in your passport. Try not to look like scared little lambs. Smile and be courteous even if the customs and immigration people are not. Don't give them an excuse to pick on u. They are not like singaporean civil servants.

This is all i can think of for now. The suggestions above are just some things i have learned during my cheonging sessions there over the past few years. They are usually answers to questions my friends usually ask me. I hope it helps. For the non bahasa speaking bros, i'm sorry but it will be very helpful if u can learn some basic phrases.

I sure hope that more bros will have better experiences than the ones that posted their negative frs here. Ultimately, try to be safe and avoid going there alone especially if u do not know anyone over there.

Cheers!
