Talking Re: Retirement in Bangkok!

Greetings:

If you want to start a longterm permanent relationship with a Thai phuying, you need to read a book titled "Love Entrepreneurs." Love Entrepreneurs is the best book I ever read that deals with financial implication in a relationship. It doesn't matter if your girlfriend or wife is former bar/entertaintment girl or educated good girl, you must satisfy her financially or your relationship will be terminated! As a husband or boyfriend, we're ranked third behind parents and siblings. So bottom is you must give money to your girlfriend or wife to make her happy! Unless you marry a very wealthy Thai phuying, money talks and shit stinks!

Re: Retirement in Bangkok!

congratulation bro norice on ur early retirement ....
so envy u .. as u can now relax and enjoy ur retirement after decades of hardwork ..

it's wise and smart to plan ur expenditures for ur retiremnet period ..
but no matter how much u have ... it's always end up "NOT ENOUGH" ...
there r many "hidden costs" along the way as u get older ...
thus my advise would be ... minimise ur mthly expenditure, set aside some "emergency" savings on top of ur budget and make ur money work for u ...
it's not wise to spend without any income, regardless how little that income can be, it's still helpful ...

a thumb of rule for retirement budget ...
if u plan and budget enough for 15 yrs to live comfortably as per ur expectation ... add another 50% on top of it ... that's ur safety net ...

Adidas,

Thanks for your insightful advice! I'm lucky, since I'm a government employee, after retirement, I will be receiving a monthly pension and free medical, dental, drugs and vision insurance coverage. My Thai fortune teller told me, "I will be living till I'm 82 years old!" So I have to plan and determine how much money I need till death! I've already developed my financial expenditure plan till I'm 82 years old using Excell spread sheet. Also, as an American Citizen, I'll be receiving Social Security benefit when I turn 62 years old.

As a retiree in Thailand, my goal is to learn Thai language and find an attractive and educated Thai phuying. If any Singaporeans plan to retire soon in Thailand, let me know and we can help each other in achieving our goal.

Re: Retirement in Bangkok!

Bro norice,
I've been staying in bkk for the past 6 yrs. I just bought a 40sqm apt for my wife.I also have been making money ...infact better money than I would have if i had stayed in sg.

From your thread I understand you had set aside ur rented budget about 22,000 baht per mth. If that' the case you might like to purchase a 800-1m baht apt instead.
We bought ours for 865,000 baht.We are located very near silom and sathron road and ours is on the 11th flr.
The rented amt u pay can afford u to fully paid up for the apt bought in 3-4yrs time.
You can contact me n pay me a visit to my apt if u like.Every angle of thai law u want to know I can provide u with.
The written laws in thailand is just a guide line and infact it is been abuse and bent all the time.
As a foreigner I can understand ur carefulness but when u've reside and done many things in thailand for many yrs according to what many of the locals practice here,u'll eventually find that living in thailand is peanut.

As for g/f or wife there are 70 mill thai to choose from. U'll just need to know where the majority of good ones are.
Of cos if u visit go go bar or karaoke joint ur chances will be slimmer bcos most of them is there to earn money or hope to marry a rich foreigner.

In thailand there will never be a shortage of gals who will like u.
I've a very good wife and ....hehe....numerous gitt ( part time lover in thai langauge )

I'm legally married and have work and even set up my own company too.
I pay taxes without fail and knows how to avoid unnessary taxes too.
You can don't pay or pay it's all up to u if u know how.
I pay taxes bcos it allows me to have access to banks benefits.

Let me know if u need further assistant.

regards

Re: Retirement in Bangkok!

My suggestion to you is to make a trip to Bangkok and head to the Ratchada soi 3 which is next to China Embassy or maybe behind Robinson Ratchada (Chan Mueng area) as there are lots of condo available for rent at reasonable rates. I used to stay in the area couple of years ago when I was working in Bangkok and at that time the rent ranges from 4kbaht to 7kbaht but not sure what's the current rate at the moment.

You got walk in and ask 1 by 1 whether are there rooms available as some do not rent to foreigners but with a deposit of 3 months and above, they will find it hard to reject you. Soi 3 is good because it's near to Param 9 MRT station and also Tesco as well, you can easily get your daily meals and necessities. Not forgetting the famous soi 3 chicken rice which could be available almost 24hours when you're hungry, the most important is the TIGER internet cafe (for surfing sammyboy) along the soi is 1 of the best internet cafe I had ever been to with great environment & nice people. The name of the apartment is DUANGPORN MANSION, if you're keen, you can contact them at 02-245 4322 but you got to speak thai as the receptionist is English illiterate

There are 2 block, 1 old and 1 new, go for the new one. The room is just a studio with basic furniture + bathroom, if you're lucky you might get a balcony for your laundry corner room only. Point to note is to ask beforehand whether is there a water-heater available as previously I didn't check and ended up spending another 2k+ to fix my own water-heater. Utility bills are not included, depending on usage, with aircon its normally between 1k+baht per month.

If you need any info or assistance, feel free to pm me.

GOOD LUCK in your room hunting!

Bangkok Master & luv unt,

Thanks for valuable and insightful information. I guess the bottom line is to have sufficient amount of money and finance to retire and enjoy life in Bangkok. It really doesn't matter where you live as long as walking distance to BTS or MRT, safe and secured. In regards to finding a good girl for possible longterm relationship, I agree there are many girls available but we need to be choosy and take your time finding a nice, educated and non-working girl.

Once again thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Let's meet in Bangkok during December/January and I'll buy few beers.

v4lkyr3,

I'm retiring in Thailand because the cost of living is very low compare to Hawaii! Therefore, I'm taking early retirement since cost of living is low and I'm able to live like a king with my pension and investments in Thailand. We all need to enjoy life and have fun to the max now, don't wait till you're retired and old!

I will always be searching for an attractive, young and educated Thai women!

ragnarclaw,

You must be living in a studio and the cost is very reasonable. Do you live alone or with a girlfriend? Theres no way I can live with someone in a studio, no privacy and not enough room! My budget for an apartment is 20,000 to 22000 per month without utilities in Bangkok.

I used to owned 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom and 2 covered parking townhouse before I sold it to get ready to move to Bangkok. Currently, I'm renting a studio in Waikiki for $1,200 a month and I have to pay for electricity. It's vacation rental studio so I have all the amenities but still it's too small! I just have to sacrifice 6 more months before moving to Bangkok!

coolmanks,

If you're a government worker in Hawaii, you only need 20 years of service to receive pension if you decided to retire early! Yes, you won't receive full pension but enough money and free medical, dental, vision and drung insurance till death!

Also, you don't need to be cashking to have fun in Thailand, yes, money helps but bottom line is budget, budget and budget! My advice to all the brothers in Singapore, who's thinking of retiring in Thailand, if you want to save money, have a permanent girlfriend instead of poking all the girls from soapys, gogos and bars! Current going rate for salary to living girlfriend is 20,000 - 25,000B per month, compared to playing around will cost you approximately 30,000 - 35,000B per month! It's based on my own calculation and budget. It doesn't matter if your girlfriend is college grad good girl versus fomer working girl, you must pay them monthly salary to make them happy. All my friends from USA in Bangkok with girlfriends or wives, they are paying them monthly salaries.

In Thailand, money talks and shit stinks!

Agreed! Not saying that you can't find the "one" in such places but its a lot harder.

555... snr bro I think u meant "live in" not "living" GF right? OK English 101 aside...

Average starting salary for a fresh biz admin grad from local uni is like Bht15K (govt sector) to Bht20K (private) so your GF is getting a good deal esp if she only has high school education

Most Thai puyings will expect u to "take care" of them 100% which is fine by me. Its the family that gets to you with their never ending requests for money

555... Bro Norice, did u factor the "family" into your "monthly expenditure"?
