A 24-year old man who met a girl who was only half his age and had unprotected sex with her was sentenced to one-year jail today.

Dong Yongwei, 24, started chatting with the 12-year-old primary school student on the chat mobile application WeChat in June.

They exchanged mobile phone numbers and started talking to each other on the phone. Within a few weeks, they decided to meet.
Three months later, the girl invited Dong to her home and they had sex.

While they had sex, the girl had asked Dong not to ejaculate inside her but he did so one of the two occasions they had sex.
They had sex on September 20 and October 4.

On October 4 when Dong visited the girl again, they started to hug and kiss. Her mother was not at home.

Dong then asked if he could have sex with her but the girl did not want to as she was worried about getting pregnant.

But he told her that he would not ejaculate into her and she agreed. They had sex in the master bedroom.










After they were done, they showered together.

He also went with her to the market to buy groceries home to cook, and then went back home with her while she started cooking.
That was when the girl's mother came home and found out about what has happened and called the police.

Dong pleaded guilty to one of the two offences. The other was taken into consideration. He could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Carene Poh pressed for the sentence, saying that Dong and the girl had a wide age gap and also, she was only reaching puberty. Also, they had unprotected sex and it could lead to unwanted pregnancy.

Dong only came to work in Singapore in December. He was working as a construction worker.
