Woman fined for letting man into her home during circuit breaker for massage and masturbation

SINGAPORE: A woman was fined S$7,000 on Wednesday (Jun 3) for letting a man into her condominium unit during the "circuit breaker" period for massage and masturbation services.

Allowing people who are not from your household into your home during the circuit breaker is an offence under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) Act.

China national Cheng Fengzhao, 38, pleaded guilty to one charge of allowing the 51-year-old man, who was not from her household, to enter her home. A second charge of letting him in on an earlier occasion on Apr 19 was taken into consideration.

The court heard that Cheng is a work permit holder who came to Singapore to work as a waitress. However, she has never reported to work as a waitress. Instead, she paid a monthly fee to unknown individuals to help advertise her sex services on different websites.

Every 10 days, she paid an unknown man rental of S$100 per day to use the condo unit.

At about 3pm on May 5, police officers raided the condo at Jalan Kemaman for vice-related offences. The police saw the 51-year-old man, who was not identified in court documents, walking into the condo and entering Cheng's unit.

About 50 minutes later, the man left the unit and the police identified themselves.

They searched the unit and found a second sex worker in the unit waiting for another customer. The police let this second man in.

Investigations revealed that Cheng had arranged with the 51-year-old man, a regular customer of hers, to visit her on May 5 at 3pm.

This was for her to provide massage and masturbation services for a fee of S$100. She did this despite knowing that she was not allowed to let other people enter her home during the circuit breaker period except in limited circumstances.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Lee Ti-Ting asked for a fine of at least S$7,000, noting that she must have been in close proximity with the customer and flouted the law for commercial gain.

She said there was premeditation, as Cheng had made arrangements with the customer before the day itself.

Cheng, who was unrepresented, told the court through a Mandarin interpreter that she knows she has done wrong in flouting Singapore's laws.

"I do not have any qualification to earn a living," she said. "I'm sorry that I have committed an offence in Singapore."

The judge asked why she did not work as a waitress as originally planned, and she said: "When I came here, I discovered there was no such job available."

However, the prosecutor said Cheng had admitted to not turning up for work from day one.

"During this period, there were many other people, Singaporeans and non-Singaporeans, holding different kinds of jobs, who were also under the same laws," she said.

Cheng could have been jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both for breaking a COVID-19 regulation.

CNA has contacted the Attorney-General's Chambers on whether any action will be taken against the 51-year-old man.

Cheng is the second woman to be charged for such an offence. In April, a woman was charged with letting a man into her beauty salon for massage and masturbation services.

Jin Yin, 55, was set to plead guilty but had her plea rejected as she could not stop crying. She will return to court at a later date.

The lighting weakness. Foreign powers. This CB alot of cases where FWs got lighter sentences then locals and PRs. Is this how the opp target their weakness? Two GE ago Hougang central lose a GRC. We blame George Yeo for letting the ang mo leave this country.

This time alot of ang mo got better off. If the 7 got fines only. Opp knew the win is easy. Double standards must be erased off into the 55 yrs. A new age so the lighting says. No. Dont say do it. We are watching their next move.

Could the weakness link be the man in charged of foreign affairs? He should be getting a lot of pleas from the embassy here. Only a yes! His career in politics is history.

COVID-19: Man who brought female friend to his room while on SHN jailed

SINGAPORE — A man who was serving a Stay-Home Notice (SHN) at a serviced apartment but left his room several times and brought a female friend to his room twice was on Wednesday (3 June) jailed for four weeks.

Chng Tianxi, a 37-year-old Singaporean, pleaded guilty to one charge each of exposing others to risk of infection while having reason to suspect that he had exposure to COVID-19, and of coming into close proximity with another person while being subject to a movement control measure.

Four other similar counts were considered in sentencing.

Culprit brought female friend to his room twice.

Chng, a car executive, arrived at Changi Airport at about 4pm on 26 March after a trip to Thailand. An immigration officer served him with a SHN from 26 March to 9 April.

The perpetrator was to serve the SHN at Pan Pacific Service Suites Orchard along Somerset Road, having booked a room to stay there. He provided his signature to acknowledge the SHN and its contents, including his liability to prosecution if he failed to comply with the SHN requirements.

But just six days later, on 1 April, Chng left his room at about 1.25am and went to the basement without wearing a mask to fetch a friend, Chen Yijun, a Chinese national whom he got to know only in March.

Chen spent three-and-a-half hours in Chng’s room, leaving only at about 5am. The court was not told how the duo spent the time in the room.

Three days later, Chng again repeated his crime. He fetched Chen from the basement at about 12.35am on 4 April. This time, however, a security officer at Pan Pacific Suites saw what Chng did and alerted the front counter receptionist.

Chen spent 1 hour and 26 minutes in the room on this occasion. During this period, the receptionist repeatedly called Chng to tell him that he was not allowed to leave his room or have any visitors, the court heard.

“The accused acknowledged but said that he needed more time to finish up dinner with the third witness,” Deputy Public Prosecutor Jane Lim told Senior District Judge Ong Hian Sun.

Pan Pacific Suites then reported Chng’s breaches of his SHN to the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority.

Culprit met 3 friends despite being warned

The next day, at about 1.45pm, three immigration officers visited Chng to investigate his crimes. The perpetrator was told that it was mandatory to remain in his room during the period of his SHN.

Barely 11 hours later, Chng again left his room. At about 12.40am, the culprit met three male friends at the basement and the group went up to the 16th floor for a while before Chng returned to his room alone at about 12.50am.

Chng has a string of offences dating back to 2000 for theft, criminal breach of trust and cheating by impersonation, among other things.

For each of his two proceeded charges, he could have been fined up to $10,000 and also jailed for up to six months.

Based on the dates, "friend" known only a few days, go hotel room already? He was undetected the first time, and second time got caught by the hotel staff, should have just meekly comply and apologize - maybe he would not have been reported!

Coronavirus may damage testicles without entering cells, study finds

Analysis of patient samples from Wuhan shows virus caused ‘ballooning changes’ and damage to cells that produce sperm

Researchers believe this could have been the result of the virus binding to an enzyme on the cell surface

The new coronavirus could cause damage to the testicles without actually infecting them, according to a joint study by researchers from China and the United States.

They found that the virus could enlarge and attack the cells that produce sperm, possibly by binding to an enzyme on the cell surface.

But the researchers said there were almost no viral genes found in the semen and testicular tissue of patient samples, suggesting it was not a sexually transmitted infection.

“Sperm donation or an impregnation plan could be considered during convalescence for Covid-19 patients,” the researchers concluded in a peer-reviewed paper published in European Urology Focus on Sunday.

Tests on nearly 10 million people in Chinese city of Wuhan turn up only 300 coronavirus cases

There has been debate over the potential impact of the virus on male fertility since it was first reported in the central Chinese city of Wuhan late last year. Some research has detected male hormone abnormalities, but in other studies no trace of the virus has been found in patients’ sperm samples.

According to an earlier study in China, about one in five men reported “scrotal discomfort” after contracting the virus. And in the US, the case of a 42-year-old man who sought emergency treatment for “constant stabbing pain that originated from his groin” and later tested positive for Covid-19 was reported in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine.

In the latest study, samples from 11 patients who died from Covid-19 in Wuhan were analysed by a team led by Ming Zhou, a professor with the Tufts Medical Centre in Boston, and Dr Nie Xiu, from the Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan.

They tested for viral genes in tissues involved in sperm and testosterone production, and some samples were also assessed for damage caused by the virus. But only one sample showed a trace of the virus, from a patient with a high viral load. That result could have been because the virus was “present in blood rather than in testicular tissue”, the paper said.

However, more than 80 per cent of the samples showed significant damage to the seminiferous tubules – the part of the testicles where sperm is made.

The cells making up these tiny tubes underwent “ballooning changes”, becoming much bigger than healthy cells. Some were also damaged to an extent that sperm production could have been affected, the researchers said.
They said it was unclear how the virus did this without entering the testicular cells but noted that the testicles contain an enzyme known as ACE2, which the coronavirus can bind to using a spike protein.

“We speculate that viral membrane proteins, such as the spike protein, may play a role in the injury,” the paper said.

Zhang Shuye, a principal investigator with the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Centre at Fudan University, who was not involved in the study, said there was growing support but “no direct scientific proof” for the theory that the virus could cause damage without actually entering a cell.

He used the ACE2 enzyme – which has important roles such as regulating blood pressure – as an example of how this could happen.

“A large number of viral strains can bind to ACE2 and can affect its normal function and [this could] lead to damage of certain cell types that depend on the enzyme,” Zhang said.

Damage found in the study samples could also have been caused by immune system malfunction, he added.

Some critically ill Covid-19 patients suffer from multiple organ failure, and previous research has suggested that this could be caused by a destructive immune system overreaction.

Based on their findings, Zhou’s team concluded that “studies should be undertaken to find ways to mitigate the risk of testicular injury during the Covid-19 disease course”.

The Thing 1982

A classic no doubt. Reboot in 2011 and, one more in 2020 pending, because of world's on lock down. This is as close as it gets in Wuhan virus. Air born and after infected it transformed. No cure. Of course this is science fiction.

After watching the speech by the most powerful man. I lost mine confident in his ability to sail our ship. 37 000 FWs infected, in yrs to come not many foreign companies dare to invest here. We got ourself a bad name!

I agreed we must be smart to survive throughout this difficult times. It may take years in order to find a cure. Our economy down we are in perfect competition. An economy where almost all biz sectors serve our selfs not many overseas export. It worked in Malaysia it could fail in this red dot.

Is this sort of liked N Korea? They harvest own foods with closed door economy. We depend on connection around the globe. After P3. Mine suggestion is reduce the population of FWs and PRs. I am not so smart to see another options.

I cannot believe the lighting go so down. It hit the bottom. Voters not feeling well can be excused. 4 yrs later inform the election officers did not cast the votes in 2020; not feeling well cannot find the voting station. One more down the road. After eating medicines felt asleep and wake up the election is over.

I being waiting for this day for the past 4 yrs. If I am sick I will take all actions to appear well. If I need to eat ice to lower my temperatures I will do this.

For I am a son of this nation. I believe in the deepest part of my heart. There are millions of son and daughters of this nation. We shall not fear the lighting.
