To all the Victims and potential Victims of "scandals".

I have been receiving a flood of emails ranging from polite requests to outright threats of prosecution because of the recent spate of xxx rated leaks.

Despite the fact that I remove threads immediately I have to emphasise that once the genie is out of the bottle it is impossible to prevent the propagation of the files no matter what.

If the files are out there they'll still be there 10 years later and experience has taught me that the harder one tries to contain the spread the faster the news travels.

Deleting all your social media accounts AFTER a leak does absolutely nothing to prevent the spread of the images and videos. Delete them now before you become a victim. Trust me you'll find that life can still be wonderful without having to upload daily images of what you had for breakfast, lunch, dinner and selfies showing what a fantastic high society life you lead.

Legal action only results in more publicity but yields little chance of catching the source of the leak.

Tracking down the perpetrators is extremely difficult because the connections used to upload and publicise the leaks are done behind a proxy chain or the Tor network.

I can't provide the identities of the members behind the leak because they register for the forum using sharklasers, mailinator etc mail accounts via a proxy or Tor connection.

While nothing can be done for cases which are already out there, I can provide some sound advice :

1. DON'T use Social media sites - Facebook, Instagram etc. You expose your life to the whole world. It makes it ridiculously easy to track down identities in any leak. Facebook links all your friends and friends of friends and your life becomes an open book. If you have an account DELETE it before the day is out. You'll be far better off without it because what gets uploaded can come back to haunt you in the most unexpected of ways. Just ask Anton Casey.

Making your facebook account private does little to prevent snooping because so many people accept friend requests which they shouldn't simply because of a mutual friend flag or to prove they have large numbers of friends. There is also always a risk that the account is bogus and the person making a friend request claiming to be your ex classmate is actually your arch enemy out to pry into your private life and orchestrate your downfall.

Your social network accounts are nothing more than ego trips. Be confident in yourself. You don't need affirmation from others in the form of likes, loves and touchy feeley words of praise in order to lead a happy life. If you must have a facebook account set up one in your dog's name and use his/her photos for the profile.

2. Don't ever record yourself naked, masturbating, having sex unless you have aspirations of being a porn star. DO NOT permit your lover to take compromising images/videos or you either as you have no control over what he might do with the images especially when the relationship turns sour.

3. If you have an uncontrollable urge to store explicit videos and images of your sexual exploits do not EVER store them anywhere on the net. THEY WILL LEAK! Keep them in a USB thumb drive and encrypt the contents so that ONLY YOU have the password.... a strong one.

4. Do not ever send explicit files to "trusted" people. Your best friend or lover today could be your worst enemy tomorrow. Human relationships are like that.

5. If you have any material that you don't ever want made public currently stored in iCloud, Dropbox etc REMOVE IT RIGHT NOW!

Re: To all the Victims and potential Victims of "scandals".

7 Reasons You Should Quit Facebook

Ten years ago Facebook was just cresting as the cool new social media site that helped you keep in touch with the people you didn’t actually like in high school. We fed it our thoughts and feelings, shared our meals and locations and our top ten movie lists, kept it up-to-date on our relationship status, political views, favorite links, and personal information — all in the name of staying connected, and all without a thought to our security.

But with a decade of questions regarding how Facebook makes money now answered, and a general understanding of how sharing information online can be dangerous (while the platform constantly updates its security protocol), we continue to use it anyway, even though many of us are just checking in as ritual and have threatened our exit from Facebook for years.

Of course, screen time in moderation is, for the most part, perfectly acceptable, and social media can offer a few genuinely beneficial uses. But before you log in or tap that app on your smartphone again, here are a few reasons to quit Facebook in 2015.

It Wastes Your Time
It's estimated that the average casual user (17 minutes per day on Facebook) who has been active on the site for 10 years has wasted upwards of 40 entire days of their lives scrolling and liking and commenting on pictures and posts. And more engaged users, who spend at least an hour a day on the site, have clocked 150 days feeding the Facebook beast during the same time. Think about how long you spend on the site each day, and what else could be a more productive use of your time.

Facebook Uses You to Sell Stuff...
In 2012, the site manipulated posts from 689,000 accounts without consent in an experiment that examined whether or not it could affect your emotions by making a few edits on your page. The study was done, according to Facebook, to "improve our services and to make the content people see on Facebook as relevant and engaging as possible." Skeptics think it was really used to discover the monetary benefit of a Like. COO Sheryl Sandberg later apologized, adding that they "never meant to upset you."

And Targets You with Advertisements

One time you wanted to buy a thing, and then you searched for that thing, and six months later Facebook is still reminding you that you should think about buying that thing, even if you already bought the thing. Yes, most sites do this thanks to embedded cookies, but only Facebook seamlessly posts these ads in your timeline with enough regularity that you can only assume your friend has an odd obsession with the latest Norelco razor.

It's Bad for Your Health
Facebook isn't just a harmless website dedicated to cataloging your vacations, poor wardrobe choices, and myopic thoughts on sporting events (which can both define or destroy relationships), it can actually do you harm. Studies hint that it can impact your immune system and inhibit the release of growth hormones, impair digestion and vision, limit thinking and kill creativity, and affect sleep patterns and happiness.

"Who Are These People, Anyway?"

The average adult has 338 friends on Facebook and probably doesn't know more than 10 percent of them anymore, or at all. Many of them likely have new lives, some have new last names, new passions, new facial hair, and new humans they're now responsible for keeping alive (read: babies). These are not the friends you knew, and semi-casually keeping up with them is a waste of time that could be better spent with new, real friends. Or on Twitter.

"But I Don't Care About Privacy"

Fair. That's your right. But the problem is that we're setting precedent for the future without yet understanding how it will affect the free and open Web, and simultaneously creating an internet that relies on you having a Facebook account to access sites that are not Facebook. As one of nearly 1.2 billion users to date, odds are decent that your account won't be hacked by someone with ill-will toward your family. That doesn't mean that permitting easy access to your information goes without consequence, both immediately and decades from now.

Nothing You Post Actually Matters
Very few people care what you're doing, whom you're with, where you're eating, or what you just bought, and the people who do were probably right next to you when you did it. We all saw that funny Ice Bucket Challenge video, and if we didn’t see it, it's fine. We're all fine. You'll sleep well without knowing which childhood toys you owned are now worth a fortune, and you will absolutely "believe what happened next" on Upworthy, because someone took time to write about it. These articles only exist because you share them on Facebook, and you only share them because they exist. So, instead, just invite a friend over to talk about how much you both loved Save By the Bell. The internet can only take so much nostalgia.

If you're serious about quitting Facebook today, you can do it right now by clicking here.

Re: To all the Victims and potential Victims of "scandals".

Here are six reasons why Facebook can work against an entrepreneur.
This post is in partnership with Entrepreneur. The article below was originally published at Entrepreneur.com.

By Anna James, Entrepreneur.com
Entrepreneurs are often time and money poor, yet engage in a daily habit that diminishes both: Facebook FB 0.09% .

With over 750 million active accounts, an astounding one in nine people in the world log on to Facebook, arguably the most addictive social media site. Studies reveal that Facebook makes us spend more, work less and generally, discourages us. In this, has Facebook become a liability for budding entrepreneurs?

Related: 6 Reasons to Delete Your Facebook Account Right Now

Here are six reasons detailing how Facebook works against the determined entrepreneur.

1. Facebook is the ultimate time waster.

I joined Facebook in 2007, roughly eight years ago. On average I’d spend one hour on Facebook every weekday and an additional two on Saturday and Sunday, totalling 10 hours a week, or one of my average work days. That’s 4,160 hours over my Facebook life, equating to 173 days continuously, or 24 weeks, or six whole months of my life spent on Facebook.

Entrepreneurs are constantly time poor — can you really afford six months of your life trawling through strangers’ holiday snaps?

2. Facebook is a money pit.

In 2012 Facebook appealed to the government to sell shares of stock to the public. In the vicinity of $75 billion, Facebook’s “stocks” are the data that we input into our profiles. Facebook mines our information to sell companies who orchestrate invasive advertising campaigns.

What was once a fun fuss-free platform, Facebook is now littered with ads — a virtual gold mine for the $200 billion company. In December 2013, Facebook launched video advertisements, making it an increasingly unsafe environment for the cash-strapped entrepreneur. Facebook makes far more money from us then we make from it, statistics show.

3. You won’t miss it.

Last month, the Huffington Post published “How to Quit Facebook Without Experiencing Withdrawal” suggesting that to elevate the anxiety of quitting Facebook, a person should seek solace on another channel.

Invest in a social-media platform that supports, not hinders, your entrepreneurial pursuits (my preference is Twitter). Entrepreneurs should spend their time on a platform that generates revenue, unearths contacts and cements their brand. The “garbage bag” mix found on a Facebook feed is not the forum to do this.

Facebook insists upon a 14-day cooling off period when a person deletes their account, perhaps relying on a moment of weakness for the user to withdraw their request by simply logging back in.

4. Personal profiles are no longer private.

In a controversial move last year, Facebook retired the option to suppress your name from being visible in searches. Facebook is increasingly removing users’ rights to keep their information private, primarily through adding to the exhausting number of options available on the Privacy panel. The only way to keep your profile suppressed from a person is to block them.

In short, Facebook profits from you being an open book, and they don’t want you to close it. This system makes entrepreneurs vulnerable to scrutiny from potential employers, investors and colleagues who can easily access their personal Facebook profiles.

5. Facebook makes you less happy.

A recent study conducted by the Department of Behavioral Science at Utah Valley University found that Facebook makes us view our lives negatively. The study of 400 students concluded that “those who have used Facebook longer agreed more that others were happier, and agreed less that life is fair, and those spending more time on Facebook each week agreed more that others were happier and had better lives.”

When seeking motivation, entrepreneurs should look outside of Facebook. Social comparison, a byproduct of the Facebook experience, makes the user feel worse about their lives, according to one study. Entrepreneurs are emotionally rewarded through creating content and engaging in meaningful conversations online, rather than falling into the Facebook voyeur role.

6. You can’t trust Facebook.

This year, Facebook revealed its secret study of 689,000 users who did not give their consent. Facebook harvested users’ News Feed interactions to develop a detailed report on “emotional contagion,” the ability to manipulate a person’s emotions through Facebook. This is just one example of Facebook’s unethical use of the public’s information, and entrepreneurs who need to protect their intellectual property are not safe on this platform.

Remember, the moment we enter information into Facebook, it is no longer our own. Facebook is constantly updating its terms of service making entrepreneurs safe today, but not tomorrow.

Re: To all the Victims and potential Victims of "scandals".

Whenever data comes off your PC and onto any online service, don't think it's safe. For every widely publicised data breach there are countless others that remain underground.

Epoch had an un-patched SQL injection for years that very few are aware of. Unless the database is dumped into public view, they'll keep quiet about it. So far for Epoch it's worked and they've avoided the fallout. It's the same corporate risk management strategy that other companies have used and continue to use.

Dropbox were aware of their leak years ago and admitted to it, but somehow neglected to mention that passwords had also been stolen. That was until recently when they were caught out. Similar risk management strategy but in this case it failed.

To be fair Dropbox did introduce a CAPTCHA system at time of the initial leak. They knew hackers would use the stolen passwords to access accounts using automated bots. Unfortunately the idiots managed to cock up it's implementation and didn't fix it until the next year. How much material was stolen in the meantime? Your guess is as good as mine. Again, Dropbox have been pretty quiet about it.

Over the last year iCloud has had a bug with photos/ videos that was only just patched the other month. Depending on your iPhone settings, if you took a photo and then deleted it, your phone would have no trace of it and it would be inaccessible by any normal means. However that photo data would remain on iCloud servers for months accessible to hackers using specialised tools. Apple have been pretty quiet about it so far. Unless it blows up in the media, they'll keep quiet about it.

Yahoo, 500 million accounts breached in 2014. That data has been in the hands of hackers for that long. Girl has an old Yahoo account. She last used it to forward some work documents to a new Gmail account she made that uses the same password. Wakes up one morning to find that her complex iCloud password doesn't work anymore. She resets it using her Gmail and doesn't worry too much about it. Six months later some random messages her on Facebook to tell her that her tits are out on the internet.

Just a few examples out of countless vulnerabilities, many of which are never discovered/ disclosed.

It's true security is getting better, but so are the hackers. There is a breed of 'hacker' out there that is truly dangerous, they operate on human factors. I'm aware of the official Dropbox press releases, but there are rumours that the employee concerned was deceived/ manipulated into handing over their confidential information by one such operative. This information was then used to mount additional attacks. Even with a physically secure system, your data still isn't safe.

I could write a whole book about this stuff. Most people in their own lines of work are aware of bad practices, cock ups and all sorts of stupidity that customers never see. Cyber security is no different. Hackers have literally walked off with databases worth millions and the team have been like, oh shit, I hope no one notices. They also get to hear the rumours that no one else does.

The bottom line: any time you take a photo/ video using a modern device and that data is transmitted over the internet, you have no idea who will have access to it. There are many un-patched vulnerabilities out there, most of them you'll never hear about. You'll just sit there wondering how you got hacked.

'Check if you have an account that has been compromised in a data breach':
https://haveibeenpwned.com/

This is a useful site, but then it only has known breaches, most are never made public.

Re: To all the Victims and potential Victims of "scandals".

Hello everyone,

I will like to add my warning to the rest of the guys. Hope Sammyboy don't mind.

Nowadays everyone have smart phone to download dating apps.

Please be careful of the girls look hot, sexy and beautiful. They will tell a bit with you and say they are lone/Stay with their aunt and she is out of town. She is babysitting her aunt's kids/Working in US marine need to pay for permit pass for 3 days, if you going to their place to fuck her. She will ask you to drop by to 7-11 to buy condom at the same time some gift card.
Once you give them the number of the gift card, good bye to you and never find them online again.

Second way is they will want to have sex service. you want buy them razer gold. Same way, they will ask you for number and cannot see them anymore.

But those so-call lady close their old account and will create new one to scam other guys.

So please be careful. Credit for sex scam, those scammer making a lot just to scam us. The key word is gift card, and send them the number. Then you know they are scammer.
