These folks hail as far back as the original Orchard Road Gluttons Square carpark in the 60’s (where the Orchard Central now sits). They use a lot more eggs to coat the starches and leave them on the high-fire pan a little longer than most. It comes out like crispy little egg coated starched parcels and they quick-fry the oyster separately, for its natural juices and flavour before slathering it over the platter of omelette. Fortunately, Mr Frankie Gwee (‘Ah How’), the owner of Outram Park Ya Hua Bak Kut Teh, has recently set up a Bak Kut Teh restaurant in Tiong Bahru, bringing the same tantalizing Pork Ribs Soup to more people. Nay, it’s even better since he is personally managing the restaurant.
The new establishment goes by the name《团缘》 or ‘Tuan Yuan Pork Ribs Soup’. Before you raise issues with the apparent mistake in the Chinese characters: No, their Chinese name is not an error but a clever pun on words, with a deeper significance.
The phrase 团缘 (Tuan Yuan) reads like ‘Reunion 团圆’, because their new restaurant stands in the exact location of Mr Gwee’s old home more than 40 years ago. The character 缘 (Yuan), meaning ‘Fate’, arises from Mr Gwee’s belief that it is fate that has brought his customers to his establishment, and allowed old customers to grow into friends.

I’m pretty sure by now most of you have caught news of Hokkaido’s famed cheese tart, BAKE, opening up a store in Singapore. Bless these beautiful souls for bringing in such goodness to us. No more watching countless tempting videos of it online and desperately clinging to a wishing bone, hoping it will magically surface in front of us.
Come this 29 April 2016, BAKE’s SouthEast Asia flagship store will officially open, at ION Orchard. It will retail at $3.50 per tart, $19.50 per box of six tarts. The tarts will still stay true to all its ingredients from Hokkaido and it will be pre-made in their Japan store in Kinotoya, Hokkaido before sending out the cheese tarts everywhere.
Mmhm, tempting? BAKE will be opening 29 April 2016 at ION.
