maybe buying one way is even cheaper? after all, you might not need a return ticket right?

You cannot buy a 1 way ticket to Japan, the check in counter may not even release your boarding pass if you do not have a proof of returning ticket.

Flying to Japan is affortable but the expenses is another matter..
Still prefer China, especially Shanghai and Beijing. .

Not sure about proof of return air ticket when going to Japan.
But I know Japan immigration will screen arrival foreigner's particulars and luggage very thoroughly.

Back in the days when I was very active in Bangkok.
My old passport (now expired) has 100 over return stamp chops to Bangkok alone.
When I arrive in Tokyo the Japan immigration officer asked me calmly why do I visit Thailand so often?
Answer is I've tirak (darling/girlfriend) in Bangkok neh.

Luckily was granted entry without any problems.
Hahaha maybe the immigration officer also Bangkok cheongster!

Excessive stamp chops to Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar on your passport is a liability if you intend to go to certain western countries.
It'll signal a red flag and you might be held up with an interview.

In general Japanese may be very courteous and helpful people.
For the males they are super humsup deep inside!

It's been many years since I last visited Tokyo so I'm sure some situation may have changed.

Speaks zero Japanese than be prepared to pay carrothead price for those Soaplands that are gaijin friendly.
Even so the stocks they push you will be lousy compared to what the Japanese are getting.

I brought a one way ticket by MAS to Japan. During check in at Changi airport, I was asked for proof of return flight. If not they would not issue me the boarding pass. Was also ask similar question when I fly 1 way ticket to Taiwan.

Proof of return flight as in return air ticket booking or verification you brought ample cash for buying air ticket?
